Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli: the rationale for the action as presented by the Congress party

Raebareli Rahul Gandhi: In order to secure a safer victory, Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi selects Raebareli over Amethi. Congress officials defend the action, implying that Raebareli will be relinquished if he wins both seats. Critics accuse him of “flying” Amethi out of dread of losing again to Smriti Irani.

Raebareli Rahul Gandhi: The Congress party entered Wayanad member of parliament Rahul Gandhi in the constituency for the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024, putting a stop to rumors regarding the Raebareli seat. The choice was made public on May 3, which was also the deadline for submitting nomination documents for the seat up for election in the fifth phase on May 20.

In addition, Rahul is running for the Lok Sabha in 2024 from Wayanad, a seat he won in Kerala in 2019. The seat was lost by Rahul, the three-time Amethi MP, to Union Minister Smriti Irani in 2019. This time, the venerable party has put Gandhi family supporter KL Sharma in the race for the Amethi seat, which will also go to vote on May 20.

A safer seat is Raebareli.

Since 1952, the Gandhi family has been the Raebareli winners. The seat had previously been represented by Rahul’s mother, Sonia Gandhi, grandmother, and grandpa, Feroze Gandhi.

The husband of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, Feroze Gandhi, initially took the seat in the 1952 election and again in the 1957 one. Later, from 1967 to 1977, Indira Gandhi served as the seat’s representative for eleven years. Indira Gandhi ran for two seats in 1980: Medak in undivided Andhra Pradesh and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Both seats were won by Indira Gandhi.

However, Indira Gandhi kept her other seat, Medak, and relinquished the Raebareli seat. Arun Nehru, Shiela Kaul, and Captain Satish Sharma—all Gandhi loyalists—won from Raebareli starting in 1980 and continued until 2004 when Sonia Gandhi took the seat. Sonia is consistently taking the seat.
